Zaynab Khalid Zia is a Regulatory Specialist with nearly six years of experience in In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD), Medical Devices, and Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) across UK, EU, and US markets. She currently serves as AI Airlock Regulations Specialist for Innovative Devices at the MHRA, she currently provides technical and regulatory expertise in regulatory matters within the Airlock programme at the MHRA, leveraging her expertise to address complex software and AI issues alongside Airlock candidates and driving in-depth exploration of regulatory challenges. Her primary focus is on identifying regulatory challenges, gaps, and issues faced by manufacturers, and exploring solutions from a regulatory perspective. She actively considers how these insights can inform and shape the development of future UK software regulations.

Zaynab represents the MHRA in the IMDRF SaMD working group and has co‑authored national guidance. Her previous roles span consultancy and manufacturing, where she led technical documentation, supported IVDR/MDR and FDA submissions, and improved QMS processes
