Profile
Dr Horst Monken-Fernandes is an Environmental Remediation Specialist at the International Atomic Energy Agency since 2006. There his main task is support IAEA Member States in implementing environmental remediation and NORM management projects in a safe, timely and cost-effective way. He has served as technical officer in cooperation projects related to NORM Management in countries in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe. He is also the Scientific Secretary of the Network on Environmental Remediation and NORM Management – ENVIRONET. Before joining the IAEA, Dr Monken-Fernandes was a researcher at the Institute of Radiation Protection and Dosimetry (IRD) of the Brazilian Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN) where he was the head of the Environmental Impact Assessment Section. He was the research group leader in the assessment of environmental impacts of uranium and non-uranium (NORM) mining operations in Brazil.
