Mel and A-Bear Consult is recognized nationally and internationally in the NORM/TENORM Radiation Safety Industry. He is an Environmental Health Physicist with over 30 years of experience in the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Industry.
He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nuclear Science/Radiation Protection from Louisiana State University (LSU) with an emphasis in NORM in the Oil & Gas Industry.While at LSU, he walked on and made the 1986/1987 LSU football team before eventually giving up his football career for Nuclear Science. Mel is also a US Marine Corps Veteran of the Persian Gulf War where he served as a platoon commander and Nuclear, Biological & Chemical warfare specialist.He has a comprehensive background in regulatory compliance and radiation safety derived from serving in state agencies, as a Corporate Radiation Safety Officer, Radiation Laboratory Manager, Technical Services Director, and a Health Physics Consultant managing multiple radioactive material licenses and permits for state and federal agencies.
He currently owns and operates a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB). Mel specializes in Radiation Safety Training, Health and Medical Physics Inspections/Compliance, Radiation/NORM Survey, Class 7 Radioactive Transportation, Radioactive Material Licensing, Management and Compliance. Mel is also a distributor of OSL radiation dosimeters and currently manages over 30,000 individual users annually including the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) contract.
