Akos joined Perley Health in 2008 as Chief Operating Officer and was named CEO in 2013. Prior to joining one of the largest and most progressive long-term care homes in Ontario, he worked at a professional association following several years in benefits consulting. During his tenure with Perley Health, Akos has overseen the implementation of a 15-year strategic plan and expanded the organization’s continuum of care and accommodations. This evolution included the introduction of public-facing clinics for all ages and expansion of a longstanding partnership with Algonquin College to launch a living classroom to train the workforce of the future. Other highlights of his tenure include the creation of a specialized care unit for older adults living with dementia and the creation of SeeMe™, a comprehensive framework for developing care plans that prioritize residents’ values, preferences and desired lifestyle.
Since 2013, the organization has received numerous accolades and awards. In 2014, Perley Health received a Community Builder of the Year award from the United Way. In 2016, through a competitive process, the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) selected Perley Health to become a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) and in 2018, Accreditation Canada awarded Perley Health its top designation – Exemplary Status after reviewing the organization’s operations and high quality of care, In 2019, the Perley Health Centre of Excellence in Frailty-Informed Care ™ opened to help transform care for Seniors and Veterans. Akos holds a Master in Health Science, Health Administration, from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts, Industrial Relations, from McGill University. He is also a Certified Executive Coach through Royal Roads University. In 2016, Akos received the Minister of Veterans Affairs Certificate of Recognition for outstanding service, commitment and dedication to Canada’s Veterans.
