Joan Haysom is a Sr. Energy Engineer with more than 30 yrs experience in energy and high-tech engineering. As the Practice Lead for Renewable Electricity and former Energy Market Chief at J.L. Richards, she works with colleagues and clients to develop integrated energy projects that decrease carbon emissions and deliver economic returns. She oversees the firm’s advisory, engineering feasibility and design services in the topics of integration of PV and batteries, net-zero carbon buildings, peak demand management, wastewater energy transfer, and building energy retrofits. Prior to JLR, she worked at Leidos Canada as an independent engineer on 100s of MWs of solar, at the University of Ottawa’s SUNLAB on applied solar and battery research, and as longtime member of the Ottawa Renewable Energy Cooperative. She was the winner of the 2016 CanSIA Solar Woman of Distinction, and retrofit her residence to be net-zero carbon with solar, batteries, heat-pump and electric vehicle.
