Expert reusable packaging at KIDV, co-founder & coordinator of Planet Reuse at Netherlands Institute for Sustainable Packaging (KIDV)

After receiving an education as Industrial Design Engineer, graduating in packaging technology, Marcel worked for over 15 years in the FMCG industry as a packaging expert. After his most recent role in that field, as European packaging Manager for a large organic food company, he joined the ranks of the Netherlands Institute for Sustainable Packaging (KIDV), which is part of the Dutch PRO for packaging waste, Verpact. During those six years at KIDV he had a specific focus on the transition from single-use packaging to reusable alternatives. He initiated the Dutch ‘Community of Practice’ for Reusable Packaging, for which he organised meetings & pilots and organised a string of webinars with experts from through-out Europe. These efforts resulted in a European platform & network that was set up in 2022 with like-minded experts from France and Germany. This freely accessible platform was dubbed Planet Reuse and besides boasting hundreds of reuse solutions, a library with 100+ relevant publications & LCA’s and a network of over 1.300 members. Currently Marcel and the team at Planet Reuse are working on a new series of webinars linked to the PPWR and other relevant developments as well as the second edition of its Reuse Barometer that will provide a detailed ‘landscape mapping’ of the reusable packaging sector in Europe.
