Profile
While at CRA, Simon has worked on both UK and EU mergers, vertical agreements (including online distribution agreements, MFNs and retail price maintenance), and regulatory submissions.
Prior to joining CRA, Simon spent over five years at the Competition and Markets Authority and Office of Fair Trading. As Head of Merger Economics and Deputy Director in the Mergers Group, Simon directed the economic analysis for merger cases and was involved in most major merger decisions during his time there. Prior to this Simon was the lead economist on merger cases.
Simon has led or directed the analysis across a wide range of cases and sectors, including: fast-moving consumer goods (e.g. Diageo/United, Unilever/Alberto Culver, Barr/Britvic), local markets (e.g. Breedon/Aggregate Industries,Cineworld/Picturehouse, Rank/Gala), transport (e.g. Ryanair/Aer Lingus, Eurotunnel/MyFerryLink), financial markets (e.g. LSE/LCH.Clearnet), and media markets (e.g. Local World, Kent Messenger/Northcliffe).
Following his time at the CMA, Simon was a senior civil servant directing the economic analysis for consumer and competition policy at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. At BIS, Simon also led the economic regulation and postal regulation teams.
