Profile
Alex Meixner is the Vice President of State Policy at The ALS Association, leading a
team of government relations and grassroots professionals as we pursue our mission to
make ALS livable and cure it. Prior to joining The ALS Association in 2022, he worked
for over a decade at the American Heart Association, where he led various state and
local public policy campaigns focused on fighting heart disease and stroke, while
managing advocacy staff in certain states. Before pivoting to state advocacy, Alex
spent eight years in Washington, DC, where he worked for a nonprofit focused on
international peacekeeping and genocide prevention policies after beginning his
career as a congressional staffer and campaign aide. Through it all, Alex has helped to
shape and enact public policies at every level of government, from city ordinances to
UN Security Council resolutions. He is a fellow with the Truman National Security
Project and has served on a number of boards, commissions, and coalition leadership
teams in states and cities across the country. Alex is a California native, a graduate of
Tulane University, and a resident of Valparaiso, Indiana where he lives with his wife
and two sons.
