Dr. Katzmann received his B.A. in Biology from Lawrence University, PhD. in Molecular Biology from the University of Iowa College of Medicine (focus on multidrug resistance), and Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cell Biology at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute/University California San Diego (focus on regulated lysosomal degradation). He subsequently joined the Mayo Clinic as a faculty member of the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) where he directed an extramurally-funded discovery cell biology laboratory focused on protein trafficking and disease. In 2021 he joined Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals to lead a group tasked with understanding the cellular constraints hampering TRiM efficacy and facilitate extra-hepatic delivery.
