Profile
Steve is currently the Vice President of Chemistry & Boulder Site Head for Editas Medicine, where he leads the Process Chemistry and Analytical Sciences & Structural Biology teams. His scientific teams are responsible for gRNA and mRNA manufacture and characterization, conjugation chemistries, as well as analytical method development, QC and stability testing, and biophysical and structure/function characterization. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from UC San Diego, where he received the Harold Urey Award. He completed his Ph.D. work in Biophysical Chemistry at UC Berkeley under Dr. Ignacio Tinoco, where he used 2D-NMR and other spectroscopic techniques to characterize nonstandard DNA structures. He has also led analytical groups at a polymer company (Rohm & Hass) as well as numerous other biotechnology companies (NexStar, Invenux, Amgen, & SomaLogic), and has a broad background in analytical techniques used for the characterization of both small and large molecules.
