Dr Rachel has worked for over 25 years in both the UK’s National Health Service and in independent practice, developing expertise in mental health and psychological trauma. She is an independent expert witness for the UK civil courts in relation to industrial and civil personal injury. She is chartered by the British Psychological Society (BPS) and accredited with the Health and Care Professions Council, (HCPC) the legal body in the UK which licenses practitioner psychologists and upholds the highest standards in professional codes of practice.
Married to a former seafarer, Dr Rachel has experienced life on-board and appreciates the perspective of family ashore. In her Seaways Psychology Services practice, Dr Rachel works with seafarers and shoreside personnel, first responders and civilians in military services. She provides clinical and critical incident support, training in mental health, resilience and trauma awareness, as well as mentorship and consultation to seafarers and shore-based staff within maritime business, charities and professional networks. She presents at industry conferences and publishes articles and professional guidance on trauma at sea.
As Clinical Director of Recall Recover Ltd, Dr Rachel works in collaboration with Captain Terry Ogg, having combined their expertise to develop and deliver a pioneering trauma-informed interviewing approach to marine investigation, (TIMS®) with ongoing, integral support via a crew wellbeing continuum.
