Profile
Stephan joined the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) at MRCC Shetland in 2005 and served in HM Coastguard until 2012 when he became the Counter Pollution and Salvage Officer for Scotland and Northern Ireland. He provided an MCA regional point of contact for a wide variety of stakeholders including ports, offshore operators, environmental regulators, Local Authorities and many others. In March 2017 Stephan joined the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) on a secondment with the Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning (OPRED) and was officially appointed Deputy to the SOSREP later that year. Stephan acted in the role of SOSREP since May 2018 and was officially appointed SOSREP in January 2019. In maritime incident response, he works closely with other government departments, salvage companies, P&I Clubs and the many other interested parties. In his different roles, he has managed many incidents from Search & Rescue to wreck removal and attended a variety of shipping casualties.
