Heloise SmithHead: Consumer Sector East Africa at Stanbic Bank / Standard BankSpeaker
Profile
Heloise has more than 20 years’ experience in financial services, and has been working on the African continent in various capacities in the public and private sector since the early 1990s. She has been a senior executive in the Bank, since she re-joined the institution in 2012, firstly in the Investment Banking team and currently in the Africa Coverage Team, where she is crafting and driving the Bank’s strategy in the Consumer Sector in East Africa. Her executive role builds on her previous transactional experience where as Head: African Telecoms and Media for the Standard Bank Group, she raised in excess of US5bn in non-recourse funding for African mobile operators. Despite the historic concentration on the telecommunications sector, Heloise’s expertise in securing funding from local and international markets transcends sectors. She has also advised the leading African sugar manufacturer on funding for a number of its subsidiaries.
She has travelled extensively in Africa, both for business and pleasure, and has been to 37 countries on the continent with an ambition to visit all 54. She has a good knowledge and understanding of the capital markets in most of the larger economies on the continent, such as Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria, as well as several smaller markets, including Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia.
