Ariel is the Director of Climate Strategy and Initiatives at NewVest and is based in Berlin. He is also a Non-resident Senior Fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Middle East Programs focusing on energy and sustainability related initiatives. Ariel also currently serves on the board of the MENA2050 Climate Action Committee, as well as the boards of two family businesses. He appears regularly in the media as a commentator on energy and sustainability issues, having been featured in the New York Times, The New Yorker, Bloomberg, Reuters, ABC, as well as various Middle Eastern outlets.
Previously, Ariel was the first Director of Energy at the Office of the Quartet, where he established all energy and sustainability initiatives (including serving as Head of Delegation to Cop 26 in Glasgow) and was the architect of the Gas for Gaza pipeline project. Prior to that, Ariel was the Energy Adviser to former UK Prime Minister, Tony Blair, the Quartet Representative. He previously worked for international law firms in London and the Middle East, including A&O Sherman, Norton Rose Fulbright and Hogan Lovells, on a wide range of transactions in the energy sector.
Ariel holds a Master of Philosophy in modern Middle Eastern studies from the University of Oxford (St. Antony’s College), an LLM in international law from Georgetown University, and an LLB from the University of Manchester.
