Alona Ponomareva is a senior member of the private equity (PE) team for the World Bank Pension Plan. The World Bank Group (WBG) is the world’s largest development finance institution.
Mrs. Ponomareva has over 20 years of PE experience. She is directly responsible for making new commitments and managing the existing portfolio. In the fall of 2023, she moved to the WBG Paris office to focus more closely on the European PE portfolio. In addition, she maintains coverage of a portion of the US PE portfolio.
In addition to her PE fund allocator experience, Alona has direct investment experience, both on the equity and debt side, from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the WBG, where she spent over 8 years covering Eastern Europe and Latin America. She started her career in the Financial Advisory Services group of Ernst & Young LLP.
Alona is a Chartered Financial Analyst. She earned an MBA from Georgetown University in Washington DC and a BA in Foreign Languages from Moscow State Linguistic University in Russia.
