Gavin Cunningham is Partner at Flywheel, supporting the firm’s investment and investment management activities in the role of General Counsel. Gavin is an experienced general counsel with over 20 years of experience as a lawyer in both private practise and in-house roles.
Gavin began his career at RPC, qualifying as a corporate lawyer and specializing in international mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital investment and international regulatory compliance. Gavin left private practice to join a US/Canadian single-family office, acting as the general counsel and deal lead to build and manage a diverse global debt and equity portfolio, including investments in technology, defense & oil & gas (upstream and midstream). Gavin then returned to Europe to work as consultant general counsel to a range of technology start-ups and their founders, focusing on fintech, enterprise SAAS, IT services, blockchain applications in humanitarian settings and machine learning. Gavin has also acted for multiple venture capital firms in Europe and Asia, structuring and managing secondary transactions as well as acting as an independent syndicate lead.
Academically, Gavin attended the College of Law where he completed the Legal Practice Course (with distinction) and the Common Professional Examination. Prior to that Gavin received a Bachelor of Arts (with Honours) in English Language & Literature from Newcastle University. Gavin attended Stonyhurst College, Lancashire. Gavin is an active member of the Law Society of England and Wales and on the role of solicitors held by the UK Solicitors Regulation Authority.
