Helena Malikova is a European Union civil servant with the European competition watchdog the DG COMP at the European Commission. She is leading the directorate’s work on intelligence gathering and investigations and is researching the valuation of strategic M&A facilitated by foreign governments.
Malikova led the investigation under European State aid rules into the tax planning practices of multinational corporations including those of Big Tech firms. During the financial crisis, Malikova was part of the European Commission’s Financial Crisis Task Force where she helped assess the bailout and restructuring of numerous European banks. Through her work at the European regulator, Malikova assessed numerous cases of private equity investments and acquisitions in the context of merger and subsidies review under EU rules.
She published on artificial intelligence (AI) and monetization of personal data.
Prior to joining the European Commission in 2009, Malikova worked with Société Générale and Credit Suisse as a Foreign Exchange (FX) sales trader. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). She earned her Masters in Economics from the College of Europe in Bruges. Malikova has previously been a fellow at UC Berkeley, Harvard Kennedy School and she is a fellow at Hertie School, Berlin.
