Herald Bonnici is an expert in financial engineering and sustainability. He serves as the Secretary General and Board Member of the Private Equity and Venture Capital Association Malta that was launched in 2024 and holds several Non-Executive Directorship (NED) positions, including a subsidiary of and S&P 500 company and a subsidiary of a firm which supplies energy solutions in Africa. At the Commonwealth level, he is a board member of the Commonwealth Trade Finance Facility, an initiative that promotes trade finance among emerging countries in the Commonwealth.

Herald is responsible for operations at a niche pan-European real estate firm. He also chairs the Sustainable Finance Forum at the Foundation for Affordable Housing, where he is a member of the Investment Committee and serves as an advisor. He co-chairs the Real Estate and Urban Development Chapter within the World Association for Public Private Partnerships which is a Geneve based organisation. He also leads the Maltese Turkish Business Council which is part of The Malta Chamber.

Previously, Herald was the CEO of Malta Government Investments (MGI), which is a State-Owned Enterprise and acts as Malta’s sovereign wealth fund and is an associate member of the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds. During his time at MGI, he established a network of sovereign wealth funds across Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. He also served as Director General within the Ministry of Finance, where he was in charge of financial policy and management. In that capacity, he represented Malta on the Financial Services Council (EU Council) and the Tax Policy Group (EU Commission). In 2005 he was appointed Chief Co-ordinator Census of Population and Housing, leading operations at national level.

Herald is an international speaker and moderator, participating in major global events such as the first Africa Energy Forum held in Rwanda in 2024, Cityscape Global in Riyadh, and the Middle East Energy Forum in Dubai.
