Background & Education

Kai D. Roolf (born in 1981) studied Electrical Engineering at the Universities of Karlsruhe, ESIEE Paris, and ICAI Madrid. He also holds an MBA from INSEAD Singapore/Fontainebleau.

Prior to Afinum

Kai began his career as a management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group, advising clients in the automotive, energy, and technology industries. He then worked as a Principal at the large-cap private equity firm BC Partners in Hamburg, where he was involved in the Allflex/Antelliq and Springer Nature transactions.

Responsibilities at Afinum

Kai joined Afinum as Director in 2017 and in 2024 was promoted to Managing Partner of the firm, which he is leading together with fellow Partners following the firm’s leadership transition from its founders. Kai led Afinum’s successful exits in Midoco, Garz & Fricke, Perfect Drive Sport Group and most recently FAST LTA. His more recent, current deal responsibilities include PJP, MedTech Laser Group, and Synaforce.
