Profile

Maurizio is the Managing Partner at TLcom Capital, based in Nairobi. He represents the firm on the boards of Illa, Pula, Shara and Twiga.

Before founding TLcom in 1999, Maurizio was a Director at Bain & Company, where he led the firm’s EMEA Telecom & Technology practice, advising clients from its European and San Francisco offices. Earlier in his career, he worked with McKinsey & Company in Europe, focusing on technology and growth strategy. For 15 years as a management consultant, he advised CEOs and senior executives of European and Silicon Valley companies on strategy, operations, commercial development, strategic partnerships, and M&A.

Maurizio is co-Chair of the VC committee at the Africa Venture Capital Association (AVCA) and collaborates closely with the Stanford Institute for Innovation in Developing Economies (SEED) and its West and East Africa innovation centers. He teaches Business Strategy for Investors and Entrepreneurs at the Nigeria University of Technology and Management (NUTM) and previously designed and led the inaugural VC course at Ashesi University in Ghana. Currently, he is working with SOAS University of London on a TLcom-sponsored project researching the drivers of returns in African venture capital. He also serves as Chairman of the TIDE Foundation, a TLcom non-profit supporting the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Maurizio holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Business Administration from Bocconi University in Milan and New York University.
