James Mack is Executive Director and Chief Investment Officer for the Baton Rouge City-Parish Retirement System (CPERS), where he manages the $1.4 billion pension plan. He oversees the strategic direction of the system, which provides for the retirement benefits of nearly 7,000 active and retired members. Mr. Mack has worked and been intricately involved in the investment industry for over 25 years, serving in numerous leadership capacities. He started his career with Morgan Stanley in Baton Rouge before spending a decade in Houston, TX, managing assets for various investment firms. He returned home to Louisiana and his roots in 2009 and prior to leading CPERS, managed over four billion in assets for the Louisiana Department of Treasury. Over the years Mr. Mack has sat on the boards of numerous public and private pension funds as well as published several investment-focused articles and newsletters. With a passion for the arts and his community, he currently sits on the Executive Committee of the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge. Mr. Mack graduated from Louisiana State University with an undergraduate degree in Marketing, and earned an MBA in Finance from the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston. In addition to his educational accolades, he currently holds the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) designation. Philanthropy and community have always been important aspects of Mr. Mack’s life, as he volunteers with a number of non-profit and community organizations.
