Sir Andy Cooke, awarded a knighthood in the King’s New Year Honours in 2024, brings real world, diverse and unique world experiences to this programme with over four decades within British policing. Sir Andy has risen from Detective Constable to HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary and operating at every level within the British policing. Sir Andy has provided his expertise within frontline investigations to the highest level of national security. As the funding Commander of the nationally recognised Merseyside Police Matrix unit, which tackled gun and gang violence, Sir Andy spearheaded a complex counter threat teams in UK policing. This experience of creating and building specialists unites and coordinating intelligence-led operations is valuable to students within their learning environments. At a national level, Sir Andy was exposed to the most sensitive portfolios within policing, which developed into Sir Andy being the national lead for serious organised crime. Sir Andy then created the United Kingdom Protected Persons Service, which protected individuals under serious threat. As HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary and HM Inspector of Fore and Rescue Services, Sir Andy provided an important role in scrutinising the effectiveness and legitimacy of policing across England and Wales. This included police forces approach to counter terrorism, public protection and accountability.
