CHAMPIONING SUSTAINABILITY AT TIDES USA

At TIDES USA, we are committed to running events which are both environmentally sustainable and socially responsible. From the innovative ways we interact onsite to the radical changes in the way we build our exhibition - here is a breakdown of how we are embedding sustainability in everything we do.

GREEN BUILDING PRACTICES: ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Energy, water and waste conservation are the focus of our daily operating strategy. We minimize power consumption through sensor-controlled utilities, high-efficiency lighting, and operations strategies that allow us to minimize usage in non-occupied spaces. We are committed to using green cleaning products, sourcing local food and beverage, composting food waste, and increasing our diversion rates year after year.
The Hynes Convention Center has state-of-the-art Lutron Lighting Systems installed throughout the facilities and sensor-controlled lighting in all meeting rooms. To improve building efficiency, lighting and HVAC are reduced during show move-in and move out.

Digital Friendly Event

Our event guide is delivered in a 100% digital format via our ConnectMe App. Look out for signs around the venue to download the App and take part in our Passport Program to visit exhibit booths and win prizes!

Lanyards & Name Tags

We will be using a TerraCycle Zero Waste Box to recycle used lanyards and nametags after the event.

Food & Beverage

Our food and beverage partners, Levy Restaurants, are committed to sourcing local food and beverage (depending on the season up to 75% of their ingredients come from local farms and producers) and composting food waste. We also offer compost collection bins in designated areas around the dining area for event attendees. In addition, Levy Restaurants use biodegradable packaging and corn-based compostable cups and utensils. The BCEC and the Hynes recycle over 800 combined tons of material, including cardboard, plastic, paper, glass, and food waste with an average waste diversion rate of 47% at the BCEC. Annually, over 600,000 lbs of food waste are sent to be used for anaerobic digestion with any residuals being pelletized and land applied. In 2019, the MCCA also started an office organics collection program, currently available in four locations at the BCEC and one at the Hynes.

Wellness

The TIDES team will provide short recorded Yoga Breathing Exercises during the am & pm breaks to keep our attendees focused. Hydration stations will be provided throughout the exhibit hall and all attendees are encourage to bring a reusable water bottle to refill.

Renewable

As part of our continued commitment to the sustainability of our event, 100% of the electiricity within TIDES US is generated from a renewable origin. This results in our electricity use being carbon neutral, minimising the creation of CO2, and therefore significantly reducing our carbon impact.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION AT TIDES USA

Our mission is to give our colleagues, the markets we serve, and our wider communities access to extraordinary people and diverse insights that brings us together and celebrates authenticity. Through our live and data-driven digital services, we cultivate connections, provide meaningful content, and strive to remain a global leader. We celebrate unique perspectives and sharing all ideas within a safe and transparent environment. We believe in sustainability and continuous learning as it strengthens everything from our people, our products and our markets. We understand that to be more, we need to do more. Together, we will continue to listen, innovate, and act as a driver of change to build a business that reflects the communities we connect.

HOW ARE WE BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE EVENT?

We believe a sustainable event focuses on three main aims...

Social responsibility

We want TIDES to be run in a socially responsible manner. To do so, we are focusing on:

  • Doing business safely and ethically
  • Considering wellbeing and accessibility
  • Creating a positive impact on our host cities and measuring our impacts
  • Supporting sponsors and partners in donating to local and industry-related charities

Environmental responsibility

TIDES will be run in an increasingly environmentally responsible manner, focusing on:

  • Reducing carbon emissions
  • Designing our events to eliminate waste
  • Considering sustainability credentials for every item sourced for the event

Sustainable development

Our aim is for TIDES to promote long-term sustainable development - in the way that we run the event but also in how it's implemented in the market as a whole. We are committing to:

  • Using our content to support the sustainability of the oligo, peptide and mRNA industries
  • Developing close partnerships with relevant charities, companies and associations and giving them a platform to promote their work in the field
  • Facilitating discussions on pertinent topics including diversity & inclusion, gender balance, sustainability trends, the impact on the environment & more..

FASTERFORWARD TO ZERO

FasterForward is TIDES' approach to sustainability, moving faster to become a zero waste and net zero carbon business.

A series of activities and commitments carried out between 2020-2025 will ensure our events become ever more sustainable, delivering a truly positive impact to the markets we serve. We will also actively help our partners, customers and wider markets to achieve the same.

Our FasterForward commitments include:

  • Enable one million disconnected people to access networks and knowledge by 2025
  • Become carbon neutral across our events by 2025
  • Halve the waste generated through our events by 2025
  • Embed sustainability inside 100% of our events by 2025
