John Verbeten is the Director of the Office of Compliance and Enforcement within FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products. He provides leadership and direction for a wide range of compliance and enforcement efforts required for tobacco product regulation, including compliance education, surveillance, inspections, investigations, and enforcement activities to ensure compliance of the law by regulated industry. John has been with FDA for over 36 years. During his time with FDA John has worked in FDA field offices in Texas and Illinois, and in FDA headquarters units specializing in import operations. He has over 20 years of experience providing direction to, and leadership of, field operations, compliance and enforcement, and national-level program management. John became Director of the Office of Compliance and Enforcement in June 2024.
