Based in PCL Construction’s largest operating district, Toronto, Mark Henderson leads a unique Sustainable Retrofits and Decarbonization (SR+D) services team focused on helping clients decarbonize aging real property portfolios. As pioneer and manager of SR+D, Mark has operational responsibility for all projects undertaken by this business unit. He leads a dedicated team of professionals in providing clients with highly customized solutions to specialized buildings, renovations and revitalization work.

It was the combination of a growing sector of the business and the emerging imperative for sustainable construction in the face of accelerating climate change that drew him in. “The opportunity to lead help clients meet their decarbonization goals and work on something important to all of us, something that builds healthy, resilient communities, gets me going every day,” he says. “There are a lot of interesting and, I would argue, business critical developments in this area.”

With over 23 years of experience in the construction industry, Mark has been involved in a wide range of projects, providing employees with an experienced perspective on project management, meticulous attention to detail and a strategic leadership style.

Mark is the 2014 Toronto district recipient of PCL’s Robert Stollery Construction Leadership Award and exhibits the characteristics of leadership as an executive board member for Young Leaders in Infrastructure. He is also a 2023 graduate of PCL’s prestigious Peter Greene Leadership Course delivered to employees with recognized potential for playing significant leadership roles.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Engineering Sciences degree in structural engineering from the Western University. He received his P.Eng. designation in 2007, the same year he joined PCL as a field coordinator in Toronto. His attention to client needs and meticulous planning skills propelled him into leadership roles on some of PCL’s most iconic projects and his current role.
