The Honourable Marco E.L. Mendicino was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Eglinton—Lawrence in 2015. Between 2019-2023, he first served as Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, and subsequently, as Minister of Public Safety.
While in Cabinet, MP Mendicino led Canada’s economic and humanitarian migration policy, introduced legislation to modernize the national cyber security infrastructure, strengthened the federal government’s approach to combatting foreign interference and steered historic gun control legislation through the House of Commons. He currently sits on the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights.Before being elected, MP Mendicino served as a federal prosecutor for a decade, prosecuting high profile cases of national security, including the “Toronto 18”. He also worked at the Law Society of Ontario, served as President of the Association of Justice Counsel and was an Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School.
