Profile
Hind Alkaabi is a 4th year veterinary medicine student that is passionate about the current involvement of veterinarians to succeed in portraying what One Health is all about. The study of veterinary medicine, to Hind, inspired her to dig deep into the fascinating world of immunity, pathology and animal welfare. Thus, she has and/or is currently engaged in research focusing on camel immunity, tiger fertility and the host-pathogen interaction of MERS and its different pathogenic courses in humans vs. camels. During her summers, Hind enjoys indulging in real life clinical experiences to enrich her bank of knowledge and thus finds herself almost always in a clinic examining companion animals and shadowing veterinarians in surgeries. In her latest summer, Hind spent three weeks in the small town of Charlottetown, Canada indulging in a pathology experience that allowed her to perform necropsies and provide full reports to the resident veterinarian and pathology professors at the University of Prince Edward’s Island. This experience enriched her knowledge of veterinary practices in North America and how one can acquire a proper postgraduate experience there. The indulgence of hinds at UPEI came as an invitation from her pathology professor due to her expressing her interest in the course. Hind is currently engaged in tiger fertility research with an esteemed zoo and looks forward to gaining experience in livestock farming in her upcoming visit to Mleiha farms.
