Clive R. Wood, PhD is Corporate Senior Vice President and global head of Discovery Research at Boehringer Ingelheim. Before joining BI in April 2014, Clive was responsible for biologics research, process development and clinical manufacturing at Bayer HealthCare’s sites in Germany and the USA (2009-2014). Previously he served as CSO, EVP at Dyax Corp (2003-2009) and Senior Director at Genetics Institute, Inc./Wyeth Research (1986-2003) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Biologics have been an important theme of his career, starting with work on monoclonal antibody expression in bacteria and yeast at Celltech (1982-1985). His research work has focused on cytokines and antibody therapeutics in inflammation, hematopoiesis and oncology. Among other contributions, his work led to identification of the ligands of PD-1 and demonstration that the activation of this receptor leads to T-cell inhibition

Clive was born in Hampshire, UK, and was educated at Imperial College, London (B.Sc., Ph.D. in Biochemistry).
