Jan Stöhr, PhD, joined AC Immune in 2017 as Head of Non-Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) proteinopathies. His group works on discovering novel antibodies for therapeutic and diagnostic approaches in neurodegenerative diseases. He received his PhD in Biochemistry and Biophysics from the University of Düsseldorf in Germany, studying the mechanisms of protein aggregation in prion diseases. Following his PhD, he joined the laboratory of Nobel Laureate, Stanley Prusiner, MD at the University of California in San Francisco (UCSF) first as a postdoctoral fellow and later as a faculty member in the department of Neurology. During his time at UCSF, he described the governing principles of prion-like propagation in Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative diseases. To date, his work has resulted in over 30 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.
