Mitra Roknabadi is Vice President and Global Head of Marketing at OpenFin, the financial industry’s operating system. Within finance, the number of firms utilizing OpenFin technology has grown from 2,400 to 3,800 since the launch of Workspace 16 months ago. Today, OpenFin is used by 90% of global financial institutions, including banks, buy-side and sell-side firms and the global vendor community.
In the consumer space, firms like Apple and Google provide infrastructure including operating systems and app stores that enable the mobile experience. OpenFin, in turn, provides analogous infrastructure tuned for the needs of the financial industry - and Mitra is responsible for OpenFin branding, marketing, events and media relations. The founders of OpenFin, Mazy Dar and Chuck Doerr, had a vision of fundamentally improving desktop technology for financial markets.
This included the way applications are developed and deployed across the industry, and ultimately the way in which the industry collaborates and innovates. By marketing OpenFin OS and OpenFin’s Workspace interface to customers, Mitra has had a positive impact on OpenFin’s growth and overall FinTech Community.
It is hard to overstate Mitra’s impact on the FinTech community evidenced by her leadership at OpenFin, her tireless involvement in building a community of users and her dedication in developing the world’s largest JavaScript for Finance conference, FinJS; which has become a central venue for networking and showcasing FinTech innovations across Capital Markets. Successful global marketing and branding of the financial industry’s operating system Mitra is the driving force behind OpenFin’s successful brand and community development in the FinTech space.
Mitra’s marketing efforts at OpenFin have been instrumental in establishing the company as a leader in enabling innovation across the industry. OpenFin’s customers now include nearly every major global bank, buy-side firm, and countless FinTechs, with over 350,000 licensed users. Over the past year, Mitra has been integral to the successful product launch of OpenFin’s new flagship product ‘Workspace’. Mitra was responsible for building the product marketing team which helped OpenFin reach a wider, more global audience and accelerate brand efforts. She also coordinated the rebrand of the OpenFin website in 2021 to tie into the new Workspace brand identity, and organised a highly successful inaugural keynote event. Critical impact on the financial services sector In 2015, she founded the company's flagship conference, FinJS, which has since hosted thousands of professionals across the globe. Mitra’s personal contribution and impact to FinTech was founding FinJS, OpenFin’s flagship conference for technologists and business heads. The conference was designed to bring the industry together showcasing use of web technologies by FinTechs and financial institutions as well as keynotes and thought leadership from companies such as Google, SalesForce, Microsoft, and Facebook to name a few. Since its launch, she has successfully hosted 24 conferences globally both in-person, and virtually, bringing together over 8,000 attendees globally. Through Mitra’s leadership, FinJS is now recognised as the world’s biggest JavaScript for Finance conference.
In 2020, Mitra was also integral in launching OpenFin’s new Certified Developer Program. The program was created to share the OpenFin ecosystem with the development community at large by providing data access of OpenFin products to development partners so that products can be tested either before going live or any scheduled upgrades. In addition, Mitra is committed to engaging with the FinTech community.
During lockdown, Mitra took the initiative to offer its customers and community various virtual means to continue to meet, discuss, and showcase innovations and thought leadership. She has now established hybrid options for all of OpenFin’s events, to allow access to all that want to participate. Moreover, Mitra produces regular webinars, giving OpenFin customers a platform to share their innovations with the OpenFin Community; she personally recruits partners and speakers from across the industry. Her personal brand and the strength of her relationships are a key reason for the success of the events and their crucial role they play in fostering industry collaboration. Mitra’s marketing and community building efforts at OpenFin have been instrumental in establishing the company as a leader in collaboration and enabling innovation across the industry.
