Hugh Pullen

Hugh is Head of Public Affairs for Novartis in Region Europe, based in Brussels. He leads a team of public affairs professionals across Europe, shaping public policy and stakeholder engagement on medicines, healthcare, innovation and competitiveness policy.

Before joining Novartis, Hugh spent 11 years at Merck KGaA, latterly as Head of Global Policy and External Affairs. He previously served as Director of European Government Affairs at Eli Lilly and Company.

Hugh chairs EuropaBio’s Healthcare Biotechnology Council and is a former President of the Board of the European Medicines Verification Organisation.

A dual UK–Belgian national and political science graduate, Hugh began his career in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade, the European Parliament and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
