I am Marco Straccia, PhD, MBA, co-founder and managing director of FRESCI, a Barcelona-based life-sciences company helping promising therapies reach patients faster by improving how biomedical evidence is generated, assessed and translated into development decisions.

I hold a PhD in neuroscience, completed postdoctoral research in stem cell therapy, and previously served as an associate professor at the University of Barcelona.

My work focuses on human-relevant New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) and on the quality, reproducibility and clearly defined context of use required for them to support scientific and regulatory decisions.

At FRESCI, we conceived and led the development of BimmoH for the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre and developed NATworks, two AI-enabled infrastructures for identifying and assessing NAMs and their evidence.

Building on our recent Journal of Translational Medicine review, we are extending this work across the preclinical-to-first-in-human pathway in biopharma, as well as into vaccine testing and cell therapy through projects such as VISI-ON-BRAIN.
