Mario Gimona is Head of R&D at the GMP-Unit of the Paracelsus Medical University (PMU) in Salzburg, Austria, and co-founder and Scientific Director of Small New World Laboratories GmbH. Since 2024 he leads a research group at the Ludwig-Boltzmann-Institute for Nanovesicular Precision Medicine in Salzburg. Mario Gimona received his PhD in Genetics and Cell Biology from the Paris-Lodron University of Salzburg in 1990. He spent two years at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York, USA, and led research labs in Austria and Italy. From 2012-2024 he headed the GMP stem cell and EV manufacturing unit at PMU, and steered the EVTT transfer center for Extracellular Vesicles Theralytic Technologies. His work focuses on the translation of MSC-derived EVs and EV-rich secretomes as novel therapeutics for the reduction of inflammation and injury-induced fibrosis.
