Myth-busting!
For their new myth-busting series, the Streamly team are looking for experts to speaking about the following:
Innovation
Myth: Being the first to market guarantees success
The truth is: Execution, timing, and iteration matter far more than being first.
Myth: Innovation thrives when there are unlimited resources, big budgets, and complete creative freedom.
The truth is: The most groundbreaking ideas come from constraints—tight budgets, strict regulations, and even failure force creativity to flourish.
Marketing
Myth: Mastering social media is about hacking the algorithm.
The truth is: Algorithms prioritise content that resonates—understanding your audience matters more than gaming the system.
Myth: Going viral is the ultimate goal for success.
The truth is: Viral moments fade fast—sustained success comes from consistent brand-building, not fleeting hype.
Sustainability pt.1
Myth: Switching to paper bags or reusable totes is always the greener choice over plastic bags.
The truth is: Producing paper bags and cotton totes requires significantly more energy and water than plastic bags. A cotton tote needs to be used thousands of times to offset its environmental footprint.
Myth: If a brand claims to use “biodegradable” or “compostable” materials, the product will naturally break down.
The truth is: Many “biodegradable” plastics require industrial composting facilities that most cities don’t have. If they end up in a landfill, they degrade just as slowly as regular plastic.
Sustainability pt.2
Myth: Eating locally grown food is always better for the environment.
The truth is: The carbon footprint of food is often more about what you eat than where it comes from. Transport emissions are minor compared to the impact of beef or dairy production. A plant-based meal from across the world can still be more sustainable than a locally sourced steak.
Myth: Metal straws are an eco-friendly replacement for plastic straws.
The truth is: A single stainless steel straw requires hundreds of uses to offset the environmental impact of its production. If you forget it at home or keep buying new ones, it’s worse than using a plastic straw occasionally.
