Dr Bakouni is an accomplished HR Manager with a specialization in the shipping industry, bringing over a decade of versatile experience spanning in Human Resources management, Health & Safety, Training, Operations and Quality. Her HR managerial experience spans over five years, with a primary focus on Learning and Development (L&D), talent management and employee wellbeing/health & safety within the shipping industry.

She holds a PhD in Organizational Behavior and Leadership from the University of Piraeus, an MSc in Human Resources from Athens University of Economics and Business, and a BA in International and European Relations from the University of Piraeus. Her specific research interest lies in the ethical dimension of leadership and its psychological impact on employees. Additionally, she holds a Diploma in Adult Learning from Solent University, a Diploma in Maritime Business Strategy and is a certified ISM / ISPS / MLC Auditor, blending the understanding of shipping business with people management. In addition, she is a certified Career Coach from the University of Aegean.

Academically, she has served as a Senior Lecturer in HR for the University of Essex through Aegean College, imparting both practical insights and theoretical knowledge to shape the next generation of HR professionals. Additionally, she is an Academic Course Director specializing in maritime HR and Crew Management for Lloyd's Maritime Academy, contributing to the development of industry-specific expertise.

Committed to giving back, she is actively engaged as a mentor for organizations such as Women on Top and Job-Pairs, where she contributes to professional growth and empowerment. She also serves as an HR advisor & mentor for Project Connect, with an aim to empower younger generations. As a member of WISTA (Women's International Shipping & Trading Association), she is dedicated to advancing women's roles within the shipping industry.
