Murilo Bettarello
Coffee Lead Agronomist (LATAM) at Biome Makers
Speaker

Profile

Murilo is an agronomist lead for coffee at Biome Makers and a partner at Regenera Agro, a consultancy for sustainable agriculture, working with private companies, NGOs, farmers, and governments across Brazil and other countries like Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
His projects focus on delivering productivity, profitability, sustainable production, and quality of life improvements for his clients and their communities.

Key clients include companies like PIF (Public Investment Fund, McKinsey, Palladium, Nespresso, Unilever, and General Mills), as well as NGOs like Enveritas, TecnoServ, Solidaridad, WWF (World Wildlife Fund), Imaflora, and the Global Coffee Platform.

Over the past 23 years, Murilo has trained and helped more than 3,000 agriculture professionals (e.g., agronomists, technical support, and farmers) to adopt good production practices and improve productivity in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Murilo isn’t from a farming background, but chose to get involved in the sector. He is a first-generation farmer of regenerative coffee and grains in the countryside of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, where he began growing coffee, soybeans, and corn in 2021.

Murilo studied at the University of São Paulo with a graduate degree in agronomic engineering and a Master’s in entrepreneurship and business administration. He is also a 2017 Nuffield International Scholar and a Nuffield International board member.
