Profile
Ajit is Chief Examiner and Deputy Director for Seafarer Standards and Ship Registration at the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), with overall responsibility for seafarer matters and vessel registration.
He joined the MCA in 2013 following a 17-year career in the Merchant Navy, during which he served as an officer on Aframax tankers and VLCCs, and later as Chief Officer and Master on Ro-Pax ferries.
At the MCA, Ajit began as an Examiner of Mates and Masters within the Seafarer Training Branch. He subsequently moved to the Marine Office as a surveyor, conducting vessel surveys, audits, and Port State Control inspections. Prior to his current role, he served as the Client Technical Manager for the UK Ship Register.
Ajit holds a master’s degree in international Commercial Law. He is an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute, a Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, and a Younger Brother of Trinity House.
