In 2008, Aron Sorensen joined BIMCO where he is head of the marine department and responsible for marine technical, and operational matters. His leads a number of projects and participates in international negotiations, development and dissemination of international regulations and standards.
Aron Sorensen was the project leader for the development of the Guidelines on Cyber Security on board Ships, which were published by BIMCO and other industry organisations in January 2016. He was also leading the development of BIMCO/CIRM industry guidelines on software maintenance, which will be tried in practice during 2016.
Before his present position he pursued a career at sea as a deck officer, a teaching career at Danish Nautical Institutes followed by various positions in the Danish Maritime Authority working with education, and safety of navigation nationally as well as internationally.
BIMCO is the world’s largest international shipping association, with 2,200 members in around 130 countries, which provides a wide range of services to its global membership – which includes shipowners, operators, managers, brokers and agents. BIMCO promotes fair business practices, free trade and open access to markets and strongly advocates the need for harmonisation and standardisation of all shipping related activities.
