Aron Sørensen joined BIMCO in 2008 and is currently Chief Environment Officer. He leads a range of strategic projects and represents BIMCO in international negotiations, contributing to the development and implementation of maritime regulations and standards.

He is responsible for BIMCO’s engagement on environmental matters at international, regional and national levels, working with regulators and industry stakeholders to promote practical and effective regulatory solutions for the shipping industry.

Aron was BIMCO’s project lead for the development of the Seafarer Workforce Report 2026, produced in collaboration with the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS). The report provides a comprehensive analysis of the global supply and demand for seafarers and identifies key workforce trends affecting the shipping industry.

Before taking up his current position, Aron pursued a seagoing career as a deck officer, followed by a teaching career at Danish maritime education institutions. He subsequently held various positions with the Danish Maritime Authority, working on maritime education regulation and navigational safety at both national and international levels.

BIMCO members cover two-thirds of the world's tonnage and consist of local, global, small and large companies. We are an organisation and global shipping community of 2,100 members in 120 countries.
