Captain Alexandra Hagerty is a maritime executive, entrepreneur, and Unlimited Tonnage Master Mariner with extensive experience spanning shipboard command, fleet management, government vessel operations, maritime transportation, and maritime innovation. She currently serves as Division Chief of Residuals Operations at the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP), with responsibilities encompassing marine and fleet operations.

Prior to joining NYC DEP, Captain Hagerty held senior shoreside and seagoing roles supporting commercial and U.S. government fleets, including vessels operating for the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) and Military Sealift Command (MSC). Her experience encompasses vessel operations and readiness, regulatory compliance, safety management systems, maintenance, and the operational demands of complex maritime fleets. She holds an Unlimited Tonnage Master Mariner credential as well as DNV certifications as a Designated Person Ashore (DPA) and ISM Internal Auditor.

Captain Hagerty is also the founder of Hagerty Maritime Consulting LLC, where she advises maritime startups and emerging companies on industry strategy, operational challenges, market positioning, and navigating the commercial and regulatory complexities of the maritime sector. Through her consulting work, she brings an operator’s perspective to entrepreneurs and innovators developing new technologies and services for the maritime industry.

She serves as Vice President of The Nautical Institute, the international professional body for maritime professionals, and is active in the wider shipping community through WISTA (Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association). She also serves on the board of the International Propeller Club of New York/New Jersey.

A 2025 graduate of the MIT Sloan Executive MBA program, Captain Hagerty also holds a Master of Science in International Transportation Management from SUNY Maritime College and a Master of Arts from Aarhus University in Denmark.

Her career combines practical experience at sea, fleet and organizational leadership, entrepreneurship, and maritime innovation, with a particular interest in strengthening the global maritime workforce and helping emerging maritime technologies move from concept to operational reality. She enjoys time with her daughter Freya and out in nature.
