Captain (Dr) Sartaj Gill is a maritime leader, Master Mariner and learning strategist with more than 30 years of experience spanning shipboard command, crewing, marine HR, competency development and digital transformation.

He began his career with A.P. Moller–Maersk and has held senior leadership roles across India, Singapore, Japan, China and the Philippines, working with global maritime organisations to strengthen crew competency, leadership, safety culture and people systems.

Sartaj currently serves as Senior Vice President – Maritime & Learning Solutions at Mintra AS, where he leads the global maritime business and APAC growth strategy for a leading digital learning, competency and human-capital platform serving safety-critical industries.

His work sits at the intersection of people, competence and technology. He has led the development of competency frameworks, behavioural safety and leadership programmes, crew development initiatives and digital learning strategies, with a focus on moving maritime organisations beyond compliance towards measurable competence and safer human performance.

He holds an Executive MBA from the University of Birmingham and an Honorary Doctorate in Science for his contribution to maritime education and safety. A regular speaker at international maritime forums, Sartaj is particularly passionate about the future of crewing, next-generation seafarers, AI-enabled assessment and learning, and building more inclusive and future-ready talent pipelines.

He also brings a strong human-centred perspective to maritime leadership, with interests in emotional intelligence, psychological safety, wellbeing and the human factors that influence safety and performance at sea.
