He first Joined the Norwegian Maritime Authority in 1990.
He then became an Associate Expert at the International Labour Office in Geneva from 1992 to 1995, in the Maritime Industries Branch. Upon returning to the Norwegian Maritime Authority he became Coordinator of technical cooperation activities.
Subsequently, he was Deputy Head of Delegation for the MLC-negotiations from 2001 to 2006, and ILO Convention No. 185 on Seafarers’ ID. He became Head of Delegation for the ILO Work in Fishing negotiations, which was adopted in 2007.
In his IMO career, he has been Head of Delegation to HTW Sub-Committee since 2011, and Head of Delegation to III Sub-Committee since 2009. He has attended the Maritime Safety Committee since 2008.
Furthermore, he is an IMSAS Lead Auditor.
He is Head of Delegation to the ILO’s Special Tripartite Committee, which deals with the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006.
At IMO, he has served as Chair of the Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping Sub-Committee from 2022 to 2026.
In 2025 he was elected Vice-Chair (Government Group) at the 5th Session of the ILO Special Tripartite Committee for the period 2025 to 2028.
