Profile

Capt. Pradeep Chawla joined at sea with Shipping Corporation of India in 1974.

He got his command at the age of 29.


He wrote a book on safety at sea, called “ Jahaz par Suraksha” in Hindi in 1992. This book is the only maritime book that was also made as an audio book in the voice of his beloved departed wife Madhu.


He has been with Anglo-Eastern Ship Management since last 34 years. He is the Group Managing Director, QHSE and Training with the Anglo Eastern Univan Group, based in Hong Kong. He is directly in charge of QHSE and Training for over 650 vessels. He overlooks the training and development of over 28,000 sailing staff and 1,700 shore staff out of which 18,000 seafarers are from India.


He set up the Anglo-Eastern Training Centres in India in 1993 and the Anglo-Eastern Maritime academy (AEMA) in 2009. AEMA trains 440 students each year, who are all employed in the company.

He has conceptualized and implemented IT platforms for a Learning Managing System, a Competence Management System and a Virtual Reality Training System.


He is serving as an invited member in the Shipping Consultative Committee to the Hong Kong Government.

He is the Chairman of Global MET Association, which is an association of over 80 training institutes in the world. He has, in the past, served as a Vice-President & Council member of the Nautical Institute, UK.

He is a member of the Intertanko Human Element Group and member of the Intertanko/OCIMF Steering Group on Human Element.

He is a member of the Standard Club Safety and Loss Advisory Committee – Asia.

He is a member of the Expert Group of BIMCO Key Performance
