James Lapushner is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Anacott Capital, an FCA-authorised investor focused on special situations and digital infrastructure. Over a 30-year career, he has built and led real estate capital markets and operating platforms across principal investing, debt and equity capital markets, and distressed debt — closing more than £30 billion of transactions.
Prior to founding Anacott Capital, Mr Lapushner was Managing Director and Head of the German Real Estate Private Equity business at Morgan Stanley (MSREF), leading acquisitions, finance and asset management. He invested €2 billion of equity into €8.3 billion of acquisitions, built the largest commercial real estate company in Germany (€12 billion AuM), and founded Argoneo, the country's largest real estate asset manager, with 55 professionals.
Before that, as Director and Head of European Loan Origination at Credit Suisse (formerly DLJ), he established a top-three loan origination business in Germany and the country's first conduit programme — originating, structuring and underwriting more than €10 billion of investment- and non-investment-grade debt across Europe, the United States and Canada. He began his career as a real estate attorney at Kaye Scholer LLP (now Arnold & Porter) in New York.
Mr Lapushner received the 2019 CoStar Investment Deal of the Year (Lloyds Chambers) and the 2017 Real Estate Capital Financing Deal of the Year — Development (St Giles Square). He holds a B.A. in Economics from Cornell University and a J.D. from Rutgers University, and studied European law at Leiden University. He is FCA-registered and a contributor to Green Street News.
