Dan Leonardo is the Chief Compliance Officer and Deputy General Counsel at Multicoin Capital. At Multicoin, Dan focuses on regulatory issues as they relate to digital assets, the Federal Securities Laws, and investment fund management. He interfaces with external regulators, internal stakeholders and Multicoin’s portfolio to reduce regulatory risk and maximize economic impact and policy outcomes. Dan straddles both the legal and compliance functions, and helps oversee Multicoin’s investment and risk functions.
Prior to joining Multicoin, for approximately six and a half years, Dan was an attorney in the Division of Examinations of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), where he served as Senior Counsel in the Private Funds Unit and, prior to that, Senior Counsel in the Investment Adviser/Investment Company program. In both units he examined private funds to determine their compliance with federal securities laws, particularly the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. Prior to working at the SEC, Dan worked at ACA Compliance Group providing consulting services to registered investment advisers, including private funds.
Dan’s legal experience also includes eight years of complex civil litigation experience in state and federal courts, including business litigation, banking litigation, commercial litigation, professional liability litigation, and bankruptcy matters.
Dan was born and raised in Lima, Peru and is fluent in Spanish. He is based in Florida.
