Effective 1 May 2024, Ms. Isabel Gumeyi was appointed Head of the Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASP) and FinTech Innovation Unit at the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA). In this role, Ms. Gumeyi leads the development and execution of regulatory frameworks for virtual assets and FinTech innovations, ensuring compliance with the Virtual Asset (Service Providers) Act and other relevant laws. She plays a key role in advancing the regulatory landscape to foster a secure, transparent, and thriving environment for emerging technologies like blockchain and digital assets in the Cayman Islands. Ms. Gumeyi joined CIMA in 2024, bringing with her a wealth of experience from the financial services and technology sectors. She previously served as a Director in Risk Assurance and Advisory Services with PwC in the Cayman Islands, specialising in IT governance, risk management, compliance, and technology-related advisory services. Over the course of her 18+ year career, she has worked in multiple jurisdictions, including the Cayman Islands, Bermuda, and Zimbabwe, where she provided strategic insights to clients across various industries, with a particular focus on digital assets and blockchain technologies. Ms. Gumeyi holds a Master of Science in Digital Currencies from the University of Nicosia in Cyprus and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Computer Management Information Systems from Solusi University in Zimbabwe. She is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), and holds an Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation. SIX, Cricket Square P.O. She has held leadership roles within the Institute of Internal Auditors (Cayman Islands Chapter), serving as President Emeritus and currently on its Board of Governors. Her thought leadership is evident in her involvement in industry events, where she regularly speaks on topics such as cybersecurity, data protection, and blockchain technology. Ms. Gumeyi's career also includes significant achievements in the IT assurance and advisory space, where she led the delivery of digital asset services, advised on IT risks for listed entities, and drove strategic growth initiatives in cybersecurity and emerging technologies. Her commitment to innovation, regulatory compliance, and best practices has made her a respected figure in the FinTech and digital asset communities.
