Marc Baum is currently a Senior Advisor to Abra, a cryptocurrency financial services and technology, where, among other things, he acts as a director for the Abra Capital Management funds; an Advisor to Pacific Road Capital Management, an Australian advisor focused on the energy transition that invests in strategic metals with an ESG overlay and an Advisor to Pontoro, which is seeking to deconcentrate infrastructure project finance assets. Marc helps both companies identify, navigate and resolve legal, regulatory, compliance, business and operational issues.
For nearly thirty-five years, Marc has worked in executive, law and compliance functions at sophisticated regulated financial services firms including broker-dealers, banks and investment advisors ranging from start-ups to international banking organizations. Marc’s employers have included Serengeti Asset Management, Offit Capital Advisors, Ramius LLC (now Cowen Group), Seaport Global, IPO.com, T.D. Securities/TD Bank, J.P. Morgan, Merrill Lynch and Salomon Brothers. Marc began his legal career as an associate at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver and Jacobson.
Marc is a former co-chair of the MFA’s General Counsel Forum, a frequent speaker on legal, compliance and organizational issues facing the alternative investment industry and a faculty member and frequent contributor for the Regulatory Compliance Association. Marc is a former Vice Chair of the LSTA (Loan Syndication Trading Association).
Marc is an active fundraiser for progressive, political and charitable causes. He is the Chair of Bend the Arc Jewish Action PAC, a Director of Bend the Arc Jewish Action (Chair 2018-2022) and a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of Bend the Arc – a Jewish Partnership for Justice (2014-2022). Marc has served as the co-chair of multiple University of Chicago Law School reunions, a Trustee of American Jewish World Service (2007-2013), a member of the Board of Directors of Soho Repertory Theater (including as its Chair) and as a member of the board of SAGE.
Marc is an active investor in early to mid-stage private companies and a current and former small business owner. Marc was formerly a member of the Board of Directors of Harvest Exchange Corporation (www.hvst.com) (2013-2018) and a Director of The NASDAQ Educational Foundation, Inc. (2010-2018).
Marc received his B.A. magna cum laude from Harvard College, his M.Sc. from The London School of Economics and his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.
