Take the Train:
- After arriving at Brussels Airport, follow the signs to the train station located below the terminal.
- Purchase a ticket to Brussels Central Station from the ticket machines or at the ticket counter. A one-way ticket costs around €9.
- Trains run approximately every 20-30 minutes, and the journey takes about 20-30 minutes.
Arrive at Brussels Central Station:
- Once you arrive at Brussels Central Station, follow the signs to exit the station.
Explore the City Centre:
- From Central Station, you can easily walk to major attractions such as the Grand Place, Manneken Pis, and the Royal Palace. These are all within a 10-15 minute walk.
Alternative: Bus
Airport Bus:
- You can also take the Airport Bus (line 12 or 21) to Montgomery Station and then transfer to the Metro or tram to reach the city centre. However, the train is generally more direct and quicker.
Payment Options for Public Transport in Brussels
STIB/MIVB Tickets:
- Single Journey Ticket: You can purchase a single ticket for a specific journey (valid for metro, tram, and bus). The price is around €2.10 when bought from a vending machine or online.
- Where to Buy: Tickets are available at ticket vending machines at metro stations, tram stops, and bus stops, as well as on the STIB/MIVB website or app.
Multi-ride Tickets:
- 10 Journey Ticket (Ticket 10): This allows you to take 10 journeys on buses, trams, or metro. It costs around €18 and is a good option for occasional users.
- Purchase Locations: Available at ticket machines and kiosks.
Day Passes:
- Brussels Card: Offers unlimited travel on public transport for 24, 48, or 72 hours, plus discounts at various attractions.
- Cost: Prices vary based on duration (around €7.50 for 24 hours).
- Purchase Locations: Available online or at tourist information centres.
Mobile Payment:
- STIB/MIVB App: You can buy tickets directly through the app, which allows for quick access to digital tickets.
- Contactless Payment: Some vending machines accept contactless credit/debit cards for ticket purchases.
Bus Payments:
- You can also buy tickets directly from the bus driver, but this requires exact change (note that not all buses accept cash).
