Olga Solomon has been head of unit for medicines: policy, authorization and monitoring (B5) at the European Commission’s director general for health and food safety (DG SANTE) since 2017. Before this, she held several positions in DG SANTE including deputy head of medicines: policy authorizations and monitoring from 2011 to 2017 and policy officer focusing on substances of human origin from 2010 to 2011. Previously, she joined this directorate (previously known as DG SANCO) in 2000 where she worked for 10 years in the field of food safety, in particular dealing with legislation on food contact materials, food additives and enzymes. Before joining the European Commission, she worked for five years for a beverage producing company in Greece from 1987 to 1992. Solomon studied chemistry at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece and holds a master’s degree in food Science from the Gothenburg University in Sweden.
