Frédéric COTTALORDA was appointed by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince as Minister of Finance and Economy and took up his duties on 1 April 2026.
After completing university studies in economics, with a specialisation in wealth structuring, and gaining initial experience in the banking sector, Frédéric Cottalorda began his career in April 2005 at the Service d’Information et de Contrôle des Circuits Financiers (SICCFIN), the Financial Intelligence Unit of the Principality of Monaco. He held a number of positions within the organisation, including that of Deputy Director until September 2013.
In this capacity, he was primarily responsible for legal and administrative matters, as well as international cooperation. At the international level, he represented Monaco at the Council of Europe, notably in the work of the MONEYVAL Committee (combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism) and the GRECO (Group of States against Corruption). In this context, he took part as an expert in the mutual evaluation of the Principality of Andorra on behalf of MONEYVAL. In 2013, he moved into private practice, joining a Monegasque law firm, where he placed his expertise at the service of professionals in Monaco’s financial sector, advising and assisting them in the areas of anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing and the prevention of corruption.
In January 2016, he established Auriga Legal Services, a firm specialising in compliance and wealth structuring. He went on to advise and support numerous Monegasque professionals (banks, asset management companies, notaries, real estate agencies, etc.) in implementing their legal and regulatory obligations in the fields of anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing and anticorruption compliance. Frédéric Cottalorda has also contributed as an expert on economic crime for the Council of Europe and at international conferences. In this capacity, he was involved in Council of Europe projects aimed at strengthening institutional capacities to combat economic crime in Albania, Georgia, Kosovo and North Macedonia. In September 2024,
Frédéric Cottalorda was appointed Special Adviser to the Ministry of Finance and Economy. In this role, he advised the Minister on the definition and strategic direction of the Principality’s economic and financial policy. He played an active part in the reform of State revenues and in strengthening the competitiveness of the banking and financial sector. He also contributed to the development of key recommendations supporting the Principality’s economic development strategy.
