James Rhodes is Morningstar’s president of Data, Research, and Enterprise Solutions and also the firm’s chief technology officer. He oversees Direct, Morningstar’s flagship platform, as well as Advisor Workstation and the teams that deliver Morningstar data and research to clients through feeds, APIs, and components. As chief technology officer, he’s also responsible for the company’s technology vision and the strategic execution. Machine learning and artificial intelligence are on the cutting edge of Morningstar’s strategy, and Rhodes has 20 years of experience with AI technology he can draw upon as he sets the vision and direction for AI innovation at Morningstar.

Rhodes has filed more than 30 patents in the areas of financial modeling, text analytics, data mining, and data warehousing, and he was named an IBM Master Inventor. He has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Muhlenberg College and a master’s degree in software engineering management from Carnegie Mellon University.
